9 Days Coffee Tour: Sidamo and Arba Minch
Overview
Coffee from Ethiopia is known for its bright fruited and floral flavors. These coffees typically have a higher acidity, light to medium body, and complex flavor notes. The beans are either washed or naturally processed. The processing method used has a huge impact on the final taste of the coffee.
Day 01 : Addis Ababa
Hotel Addis Ababa (Upgrade 3 stars or 4 stars) Arrival in Addis in the morning at Bole Airport, transfer to hotel. Visit Addis Ababa: Tomoca coffee shop (Piazza), Kaldis Coffee Shops, and Mercato/Entoto Mountains. If time permits, add the national museum or one of its beautiful churches (St-George Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, or Bole Medhane Alem Cathedral)
In the evening traditional dinner in the Cultural Restaurant.
Day 2: Addis – Awassa – Yirga Alem
Aregash Lodge – Yirga Alem Drive to Sidamo coffee region. Stop to see Oromo graves on the side of the road and stop at Zway Lake for lunch in Bekelle Mola Zway and see waterbirds on the lake.
Continue to Awasa and Yirga Alem.
Day 3: Yirga Alem – Yirga Chefe – Yirga Alem
Aregash Lodge – Yirga Alem Drive more south to visit coffee plantations, coffee union projects in Yirga Cheffe.
Visit Manchiti Rock Engravings on the way close to Dilla.
Return to Yirga Alem in the evening.
Day 4: Yirga Alem
Aregash Lodge – Yirga Alem Visit of Sidamo coffee region:
Cola washing station & Efico Foundation project.
Day 5: Yirga Alem – Arba Minch
Paradise Lodge – Arba Minch After Sodo, leave the main road and drive through the Dorze mountains to visit these colorful people well known for their tukuls.
Continue to Arba Minch.
Day 6: Arba Minch
Paradise Lodge – Arba Minch In the morning game drive through the Nechisar NP.
In the afternoon boat trip on Lake Chamo.
Day 7: Arba Minch – Awassa
Haile Resort – Awassa Today you drive to Sodo and Lake Awassa.
Stops between Sodo and Shashemene to visit Wolaita villages.
Day 8: Awassa – Kolito – Hosaina – Butajira – Tiya – Addis
Hotel Addis Ababa (Upgrade 3 star or 4 stars) In the morning visit the fish market in Awassa which have a small lake on the border of the lake.
Then drive to Addis through the Gurage reign and stop on the way for Tiya’s visit.
Day 9: Addis Ababa
Morning visit of ‘Dry mills Kuru’ and then city visit the national museum, mausoleum Menelik II, different churches like Holy Trinity, St-George Cathedral, Bole Medhane Alem Cathedral, Institute of Ethiopian Studies. Transfer to the airport for the flight back home!
